On vulnerability and curvature - The beauty of imperfection
I work in colourful series, such as “ellipsoids / eggs of life”. While an egg can be seen in every respect as a symbol of new life, rebirth and fertility, the “clutch” of colourful, breaking ellipsoids also highlights the vulnerability and fragility of nature and of us humans. Birth and death are as close together as failure and creativity. When “deformed circles on ellipsoids” curve, they may remind us of ancient relics or handbags, thus inviting free association. The “squares”, “rectangles”, “hemispheres”, “cubes”, “reliefs” and “aurum”, on the other hand, have a different life of their own. Their appearance is colourful and shiny gold.
The imperfect surfaces of the works and their mysterious interiors await a calm atmosphere in which you, the viewer, can experience art visually. By touching the imperfect structures, you are invited to feel an unknown emotion, to revel in a haptic memory or to choose a free interpretation. Without knowing in advance what kind of beauty you will discover again and again for yourself.
In the late 1970s, I developed my vocation for ceramics. After training as a ceramist, I founded my studio keramik_art in Vienna in 1992 and specialised in the experimental production of works of art made of porcelain and stoneware.
Winner of multiple international awards, finalist at numerous international ceramics biennials and triennials, participant in international exhibitions, ceramics symposia and projects. Founder and president of the ICCA-International Contemporary Ceramic Art association in Vienna from 2004 to 2012, vice-president of Künstlerhaus, Austrian Artists' Association, from 2014 to 2022. Project development of #AHA 2025 Attitude.Asenne.Haltung.Attegiamento with artists from Germany, Italy and Finland. The project was funded by the EU, Culture Moves Europe.
Member of the International Academy of Ceramics (AIC-IAC) in Geneva and honorary member of the Künstlerhaus, Austrian Artists' Association in Vienna.
