On the Vulnerability of the Surface

Christa Zeitlhofer's objects challenge the limits of what is possible with her materials. Her current works reveal cracks and roughness that resemble organic surfaces. Strictly geometric forms break open and / or elude the smooth ceramic surface through provocative eruptions. Her clear use of color and form evokes the uncompromising reduction of form in Bauhaus objects of the 1920s and the symbolism of the Pop Art era.

Although her work with form, color, and surface is contemporary and intense, the artist's intention is immediately and intuitively grasped. Her truths lie within the objects, whether emotional or philosophical.
